Overview:
- The Infantile Spasms Project is a program of the Division of Pediatric Neurology and Department of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine and Mattel Children's Hospital at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The information presented here is intended as a straightforward and organized guide to parents and caregivers of children with infantile spasms, as well as practitioners. This site is supported by the Epilepsy Therapy Project, the Milken Family Foundation, and the Paul A. Hughes Family Foundation. This site is not financially supported by the manufacturer or distributor of any drug or diagnostic/treatment device, though several of our collaborators have served as consultants to pharmaceutical and device manufactures, and/or received research support in these endeavors. Editorial control rests solely with the Infantile Spasms Project.
- The Infantile Spasms Project represents UCLA's cohesive union of research efforts and clinical care for children with Infantile Spasms. This includes a variety of ongoing research protocols, as well as a full spectrum of clinical care.
- Our research specifically focuses on (1) standardized treatment protocols using prednisolone, ACTH, and vigabatrin, (2) the use of quantitative EEG measures to better characterize infantile spasms and predict outcomes, (3) the utility of surgery for treatment of infantile spasms, and (4) the identification of genetic and other clinical predictors of treatment response.
